    Tasting Saltwater

This morning Tom Kyle spoke from Mark 4:35-41 on “Tasting Saltwater”.  We saw that just like the original disciples, we often experience unexpected trials, challenges and even tragedies.  The question is not whether or not we will experience them but how we respond when we do.  Just like the disciples, we often question whether or not God understands or cares about our situation and if He does, why He doesn’t immediately change it.

Tom shared three points on how to respond when it feels like you are “tasting saltwater”, i.e. feeling overwhelmed by the storms of life.  Use these points to apply this message to your life:

    1.  Stop questioning the integrity of God.  In the midst of trials do you find yourself questioning the goodness, love and faithfulness of God?  If so, there are two specific things we can do.  First, take those thoughts captive to the truth of God’s word which says that God is in fact, good, full of love and always faithful.  Second, consider telling someone else where you are at.  We all have times where we have to fight for faith and often we need someone to come along side to encourage and strengthen us in that fight.

    2.  Speak the truth from Scripture of who God is to yourself.  Instead of asking WHY you are experiencing a particular trial, remind yourself of WHO God is.  Jesus is good.  Jesus is faithful.  Jesus is the most trustworthy person you could ever turn to in the midst of your trial.  Speak these truths to yourself.

    3.  Speak the truth from Scripture of who God is to someone else.  Not only is it important to speak truth to yourself, but instead of speaking words of anxiety, fear or doubt to others, speak the truth of God’s word to them as well.
